Your Excellencies,

Distinguished Guests,

Fellow Compatriots,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear Friends,

Good afternoon! It is my great pleasure to host such a joyful gathering in this golden autumn season, to celebrate the 69th National Day of the People's Republic of China. As the first National Day reception since I took up my post in Warsaw, it is of special meaning to me, and the memory will stay with me forever. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to extend our warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to you for joining us today!

69 years ago, the founding of the People's Republic of China opened a brand new page in the history of the Chinese nation. For China, the past 69 years was a journey from an extremely weak and poor, semi-colonial and semi-feudal society to an independent nation and a prosperous country. This year marks also the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. For the past 4 decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people have been concentrating on rebuilding and developing our country with every determination, and in result have succeeded in making China the second largest economy in the world. However, China is still a developing country with a huge population, with per capita GDP ranking only 71st in the world, and with almost 30 million people living in poverty. China cannot spare a moment in its pursuit of development!

This year is certainly an extraordinary one in China's development. Confronted with complex economic situation, both domestic and international, China remains faithful to its policies including deepening comprehensive reforms, implementing the innovation-driven development strategy, promoting coordinated development and opening up wider to the world. The Chinese economy now is growing on a stable footing, improving its structure and shifting faster in driving forces for development. We firmly believe that China, with its 1.4 billion people market size, has solid foundations and necessary conditions to keep stable and sound economic growth, and continue to act as the bedrock and propeller of the global economy.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends!

As a Chinese saying goes, "one single flower does not make a spring." On its way to develop, China always seeks possibilities for shared development and prosperity with other countries. In 2017 China contributed 34% to world economic growth. In the next five years, China is expected to import 8 trillion U.S. dollars worth of goods, attract 600 billion dollars of foreign investment and make 750 billion dollars of outbound investment.

2018 also marks five years of China's Belt and Road Initiative launched by President Xi Jinping. So far in total 130 countries and international organizations have signed agreements with China on the Belt and Road cooperation. China's direct investment in non-financial sectors of these countries reached 80 billion U.S. dollars. China Railway Express freight trains have completed 10,000 trips, reaching 43 cities in 15 European countries. We can say that the Belt and Road Initiative originates from China, but its benefits flow also to Poland, Europe and the whole world.

Today we face a volatile international environment. Economic globalization is suffering setbacks, protectionism and unilateralism are clearly on the rise. To meet these challenges, the Chinese government will work with other countries, uphold the principles of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation, jointly oppose unilateralism and trade protectionism, safeguard the rule-based multilateral trade order, and maintain a good momentum of global economy. In 40 days, the first China International Import Expo will be held in Shanghai, as an important initiative taken by China to open its market to the world. At the expo, among businesses from all over the world, 95 Polish companies will present the vast Chinese consumer market with their attractive "made in Poland" products.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends!

This year is also the 69th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Poland, as well as the centenary of Poland's independence. In history, we both experienced miserable sufferings from foreign invasion. But in future, we will both enjoy prospects of long-cherished national renewal. Our comparable history and future increase the amity and willingness to cooperate between our peoples. We are glad to see that after 69 years of continuous development, the China-Poland relationship is reaching the best moment in history.

At this moment, our political contacts are closer than ever. We have frequent high-level visits, and active exchanges between our governments, political Parties, and so on. China looks forward to working with Poland to keep this good momentum and provide political guidance for the future development of our bilateral relations.

At this moment, our pragmatic cooperation is expanding. Cooperation between China and Poland in many fields, such as trade, investment and finance, has made significant progress. We become important partners in the Belt and Road cooperation and 16+1 cooperation.

At this moment, our people-to-people exchanges are rich and diverse. Now we have 3,000 students studying in each other's countries, and 36 pairs of sister cities and provinces. The "fever" of learning Polish in China and learning Chinese in Poland still grows. The number of tourists from Chinese mainland visiting Poland keeps increasing and will hopefully reach 180,000 this year.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends!

It's been exactly half a year since I started my tenure here. I have already visited 8 provinces of Poland, seen many beautiful sceneries and made many Polish friends. I feel keenly the vitality and potentials of Poland, its people's hospitality and friendship, and more keenly, the fast growth of China-Poland relations. I am more convinced of the mutually-beneficial nature of our relations, and have full confidence for the future of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. I wish to join efforts with all of you here today, to promote even greater development of China-Poland relations for the benefit of our peoples!

Now I would like to propose a toast,

To the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China,

To the centenary of Poland's independence,

To the bright future of China-Poland friendship,

To the health of all friends here,
