Five Stars (China national flag) eventually won the Five Rings.       On July 13 in Moscow, Beijing defeated Paris, Toronto, Istanbul and Osaka and won the bid to host the 2008 0lympic Games Since then Chinese people have started to ask why the world chose Beijing.       Though it will take time for a thorough analysis, the followings are some of the common understandings:
       1, After 20 years of reform and opening to the outside world, China made marked progress in politics, economics, culture and social development. China's GDP in 1978 was 362.4l billion RMB yuan. In 2000, it reached 8.94 trillion RMB yuan, breaking the l trillion US dollars with per capita surpassing 800 US dollars. In global economy, China remains the only country enjoying a rapid progress. Bidding for the Olympic Games is a manifestation of the country'soverall strength. And Beijing successful bid, helped by China's national economic strength, shows that China's development of its own characteristics has won the acknowledgement and respect by the world and that China's status as a big responsible and influential country is fully affirmed by the world. An Olympic Games in the world's most populous country with the fastest economic development and social progress will definitely play an active role in the development of human civilization. Olympics chooses Beijing and the world trusts China.
       2, China is a country with a history of 5,000 years and a profound cultural heritage. China is an ancient nation and Beijing also has a history of 3,000 years. It boasts the famous Great Wall, the Forbidden C1ty, the Temple of Heaven and many other world cultural relics. It is also a modern city full of life, a mixture of the ancient and the modern times. As the Olympics promotes the integration of sports and culture, Beijing, with a long history of civilization and a fast development is the right place for the Games. Beijing Olympics will surely promote the exchange between the east the west, enhance the friendship between the Chinese people and the world and develop the Olympic Movement.
       3,Chinese people have been paying great attention to the Olympics and are active participators．They are the zealous advocates of the Olympic spirit and are making great efforts in the popularization of the Olympic Movement. Since the founding of the New China in 1949, China's sports have gone from the weak to the strong．China's achievement in competitive sports and the improvement of health of its people are inflicting greater impact on the world's sports arena. China now fully deserves the title of being one of the world's sports powers．Beijing has successfully hosted the Asian Games,the East Asian Games,the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled and the 2lst Universiade from 1990 to 2001．From the two vote loss to Sydney in its first Olympic bid in 1993, Chinese people have been striving perseveringly for the Olympics,with more and more taking part in sports andculture．To host the 0lympics is their ultimate aim．The Olympics in China will undoubtedly "leave a unique legacy to China and the world's sports．" It will further popularize the Olympic Movement and enhance the Olympic  spirit．
       4, We strictly follow the regulations by the International Olympic Committee(IOC)concerning the Olympic bid and onducted a solid and fruitful work．Bidding to host the Olympic Games is a high-level international bid. The Chinese Government paid great importance and fully backed Beijing for the bid,creating a favorable condition for the Beijing municipal government．
       During the 1,OOO plus days and nights after the Beijing 2008 0lympic Bid Committee was set up,its staff fully observed the requirements of IOC in their work under the Olympic motto of "Faster, Higher and Stronger." They overcame one obstacles after another with a solid work and enthusiasm. With the backing of all Chinese people home and abroad,their excellent work won high praises and trust from the IOC members．
       Beijing successful bid shows again to the world that an opening and ever-prospering China is playing more and more important role in the world．It's the pride of the Chinese nation.
